Location
The Crazy Mountain Retreat is nestled in the foothills of the Crazy Mountains, about 8 miles north and east of the small community of Clyde Park, MT. It lies in the Cottonwood Creek drainage at an elevation of 5,300 feet. Clyde Park is a sleepy little town in the Shields River Valley on Highway 89, approximately 15 miles north of Livingston, which is the county seat and the gateway community to Yellowstone National Park.
Terrain
The property lies on a gentle south slope with two spring fed coulees where you find a mix of pine trees, deciduous trees and shrubs. The southern border lies just to the north of Cottonwood Creek which is a haven for wildlife.
Acreage:
This property consists of 156 acres of which 106 are irrigated with the balance in pasture and improvements. There is gated pipe and two wheel lines for irrigation, which operate with gravity flow.
Improvements:
There is a beautifully remodeled 4,200 square foot ranch home with a newer addition that offers splendid views of the area mountains. Other improvements include a calving barn, machine shed, shop, hay shed, a wood shop and several other smaller multi purpose buildings. Ranch fences are in good condition.
Recreation:
This area is well known for its many recreational opportunities that include hunting for mule deer, whitetail deer, elk and upland birds, and is home to several of Montana’s top Blue Ribbon Trout Streams. The headquarters are just four miles from the forest service boundary where you can snowmobile, hike its many miles of trails and fish in its high mountain lakes and streams. Bridger Bowl Ski Area, one of Montana’s finest is a mere 30 minute drive, and you can always enjoy the peace and solitude of your own ranch while watching mule deer graze your fields or fly fishing your spring fed trout ponds.
The Crazy Mountains
The Crazy Mountains rise some 7,000 feet above the Yellowstone and Shields River Valleys and the surrounding plains making one of the most spectacular alpine ranges in Montana. The Crazy Mountains range from 5,590 to 11,214 feet, the tallest being Crazy Peak with 23 peaks over 10,000 feet. There are 40 alpine lakes with good fishing and many miles of trails for hiking, backpacking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding and mountaineering.
Mountain vistas:
No matter where you are on this property you can always enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains including the Bridger and Absaroka Ranges with the Crazy Mountains as your immediate backdrop.
